The Salaried or Contracted Senior Medical Staff (non-hospital based) Subdivision has been created to improve representation for AMA Victoria’s non-hospital based members. This group includes senior medial staff, post-fellowship, including full time or part time, who are predominantly employed by, or who prefer to identify with, an organisation other than private practice and the public hospital system (e.g. universities, government departments, private organisations and research institutions).
Members have the opportunity to meet and discuss challenges and opportunities that are specific to their career stage.
Current office bearers:
Council representative(s):
Vacant
Chair of the subdivision: Vacant
Secretary of the subdivision: Vacant
To organise or attend a subdivision meeting, please contact the corporate secretariat team on [email protected]
The number of Subdivision Representatives which a subdivision is entitled to have on the Council depends on its size.
Please note: If you have questions about your subdivision(s), please contact AMAVic on (03) 9280 8722 or email [email protected].
Subdivision elections
Each subdivision must elect a chair, a secretary and the appropriate number of Council representatives reflecting the size of the subdivision. Each subdivision representative will control up to 250 votes at State Council, depending on the size of the subdivision.
Please note: Chairs and secretaries of subdivisions do not carry voting rights.
Only representatives are allowed to participate and vote at the AMAVIC State Council. It is open to members to nominate for a leadership role (chair and secretary) and a Council representative role.
AMA Victoria's 2026 Subdivisions – Another Opportunity for Leadership Roles
We are pleased to announce that all nominations received to date for subdivision leadership roles for the 2026-27 year are declared elected, unless you have been advised that an election is required for the position.
There are still vacancies, particularly for Council Representatives, in a number of Geographical and Vocational Subdivisions and so we have re-opened nominations.
Remaining vacancies will be filled on a First Come First Served basis – so get in quickly!
Nominations have now re-opened for the following office bearer positions in your subdivision:
Chair – the leader of the subdivision
Secretary - responsible for organising meetings and keeping minutes
Council Subdivision Representative/s (1 representative position per 250 members or part thereof)
For members interested in furthering their leadership aspirations, this is a golden opportunity.
Remember, you must be on the 2026-27 AMA Victoria Council before you can nominate for an AMA Victoria Board position and nominating for a Council Representative position in one or both of your subdivisions is one of the easiest ways of achieving this.
In addition, there is an added ‘bonus’ for members who nominate as Chair, Secretary or Council Representative of some subdivisions who then become ‘ex officio’ members of their related AMA Victoria Policy Councils, as follows:
General Practitioner and General Practitioner Registrar subdivisions – On the General Practice Policy Council.
Medical Specialist in Private Practice subdivision – On the Private Specialist Practice Policy Council.
Ballarat - Grampians/Central West-Wimmera; Bendigo – Loddon – Mallee; Gippsland; Geelong – Barwon – South West; Goulburn Valley – North East and Peninsula rural and regional subdivisions – On the Rural and Regional Doctors Policy Council.
These Policy Councils have been a very successful initiative of the AMA Victoria Board. They are composed of motivated members who meet regularly to engage on issues relevant to their membership cohort and actively submit policy motions to the AMA Victoria Council for escalation to the AMA Victoria Board.
How to nominate:
The nomination process is now completely online.
Please note:
You will need the name and email address of your seconder and, if applicable, the text of your statement, to complete your on line nomination.
Once you submit your nomination, an email will be sent to your seconder confirming that they have agreed to second you.
In your online nomination, you may also submit a written statement in support not exceeding 250 words which will be circulated if an election is required.
If you believe this is not your correct vocational subdivision, please contact AMAVic's Membership Services on (03) 9280 8722 or email [email protected] before you submit your nomination.
To nominate, please click on the link below.
Nominations will close on Tuesday 7 April 2026 at 8am
If nominations exceed positions available, an election will be required. Polling will be conducted electronically. Further details on how to vote will be supplied at that time.
While the office bearer roles are voluntary and honorary, there are some particular tasks associated with each. Please refer to the paragraph below for further information.
